Bhupinder Sanghera has worked within this organization for almost 30 years. She began her journey in 1979 when she challenged the University of Toronto to recognize teaching degrees of Indian immigrants. We are proud to have Bhupinder serve as the first South Asian woman in the director’s role. Bhupinder has a wealth of experience and knowledge throughout her involvement in the Labour Movement. She is the founding member of the Women's Committee, Toronto West Women's Network and the ACLA Network. She has contributed to many projects, developing women’s activists and programs for workers of colour. Prior to this new position, she was a Regional Representative and Special Projects Director where she negotiated many first and renewed collective agreements. Bhupinder organized workers from across industries such as Amhill, Aramark, Compass, Sodexo, Canada Goose, and Winners. She served on the Board of the Brampton Labour Action Centre, EI Board of Referees as an employee representative, and the Brampton Peel Dufferin Training Board. Sanghera also served as an Executive member on the Toronto and York Region Labour Council, Brampton-Mississauga District Labour Council, and Canadian Labour Congress Human Rights Committee for many terms. Bhupinder has been in her role for 2 years now and while the 1st two organization efforts were unsuccessful because of company meddling, the future looks bright! We have recently expanded the operation, introducing more reps to TJX to better serve the members there. This more efficient division of work will allow us to ramp up our social media and salting operations. The labour movement in Toronto is hungry and we will bring the buffet!
